The
mystery of "Charleston Green"
Company
President Courtenay Brack explains
that using "Charleston Green" as part of the name
of her commercial property management business is a play on
words that locals find amusing.
First,
the name capitalizes on the company's commitment to environmentally-conscious
practices that help allow its clients to stay on the leading
edge of commercial real estate practices.
But second,
it refers to the color "Charleston green," an almost
blackish green that can be seen on joggling boards and shutters
of historic homes around Charleston, S.C.
While
there's no definitive explanation for the color, the kind
folks at the Charleston County Public Library offer this solution:
"Charleston
green came about from the shutters of houses being painted
black, but the mold would grow on them in the summer and they'd
look greenish." Mystery solved!
